Son of Man

I just got done watching the movie Tarzan for the first time in about a year. When the song “Son of Man” came on I started jamming out. But as I listened to the lyrics, I couldn’t help but think about the true Son of Man, Jesus Christ.

I’ve included the lyrics to the original song from the movie and put directly underneath those lyrics some Bible verses that connect either very loosely or surprisingly strongly with each other. I hope you have as much fun reading this as I did looking for the verses!

Oh, the power to be strong and the wisdom to be wise. All these things will come to you in time.
(Luke 2:51-52, “He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”)

On this journey that you’re making there’ll be answers that you’ll seek
(Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”)

And it’s you who’ll climb the mountain, it’s you who’ll reach the peak
(Matthew 17:1-2, “After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.”)

Son of Man, look to the sky
(John 17:1, “Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You…’.”)

Lift your spirit, set it free
(John 14:26, “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”)

Some day you’ll walk tall with pride. Son of Man, a man in time you’ll be
(Luke 1:31-33, “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”)

Though there’s no one there to guide you, no one to take your hand
(John 16:28, “I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”)

But with faith and understanding, you will journey from boy to man
(Luke 2:34-35, “ And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, ‘Behold, this child is appointed for the fall andrise of many in Israel…so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too’.”)

In learning you will teach and in teaching you will learn
(Matthew 5:1-2, “When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on themountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying, ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven…’.”)

You’ll find your place beside the ones you love
(Mark 3:32-35, “A crowd was sitting around Him, and they said to Him, ‘Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.’Answering them, He said, ‘Who are My mother and My brothers?’Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He said, ‘Behold My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother’.”)

Oh, and all the things you dreamed of, the visions that you saw
(Luke 21:25-27, “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”)

Well, the time is drawing near now it’s yours to claim it all
(John 13:1, “Now before the Feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved themto the end.”)

Son of Man, Son of Man’s a man for all to see
(John 20:27-29, “Then He said to Thomas, ‘Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.’ Thomas answered and said to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed’.”)
